Dr. Sanjay Mallya

Dr. Sanjay M. Mallya is Professor and Chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (OMR) at the UCLA School of Dentistry where he is involved in education, patient care, research, and administration. He is an alumnus of the University of Connecticut OMR residency program and has been an ABOMR diplomate since 1995. 

Sanjay’s entire career has been devoted to OMR. He is a passionate educator and contributes to education through his faculty role and as co-Editor of White and Pharoah’s Oral Radiology. He provides patient care through the UCLA Dental Radiology Practice. He  was the OMR program director at UCLA (2012-2022) and is well-versed with the infrastructure needed for a successful residency program. He served on the Commission of Dental Accreditation (2020 to 2023), and as its Chair, 2022-2023. He is well versed with the interplay between CODA standards, residency educational and certifying board examinations and its importance in specialty education and practice.

Sanjay is actively involved in organized dentistry and is past-President of AAOMR. His top three priorities as AAOMR President were to improve association finances, to establish consistent operating procedures and to enhance the experiences of our residents and recent graduates. He was chair of AAOMR’s specialty re-certification committee in 2020. Sanjay served on the ADA President’s Task Force that recommended creation of the National Commission on Recognition of Dental Specialties and Certifying Boards. He is familiar with the NCRDSCB standards and their importance in maintaining continued specialty recognition.
